A landmark enamel factory from 1895 reborn as loft apartments, an award-winning dining scene, shops and coworking — in the heart of Lučenec, southern Slovakia.

Industrial heritage, reborn

In 1892, industrialist Juraj (György) Rakottyay founded the First Hungarian Enamelware Factory in Lučenec. At its peak it employed more than 1,000 workers, and its lion-branded enamel cookware reached households across Europe. The main building, erected in 1895, still stands — and lives again.

A careful renovation led by Bratislava-based GutGut architects preserved the building’s historic layers and won the CE ZA AR architecture award. Today it houses 14 loft apartments, restaurants, shops and a coworking hub — the first conversion of its kind in the former Czechoslovakia. Full history →
